The Global Aquaculture Alliance, a trade association for the promotion of environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture, has developed a range of international standards for the aquaculture industry. Called Best Aquaculture Practices the standards apply to quality, traceability, environmental sustainability, as well as animal and human welfare. Standards have been developed for shrimp, tilapia, and channel catfish farms and shrimp hatcheries. The Alliance is governed by a board of directors whose members serve two year terms. The most recent addition to the board is Domingo Moreira, the chief executive officer of Pecanova USA.
